The Group B chief played between France and Australia while the Tricolor had already clinched a ticket to the Series Sevens quarter-finals in Vancouver on Saturday morning. After defeating Spain (33-14) and Japan (40-7), the French lost to the Wallabies in their last group game (21-10).
Australians cut above
From the start, the Australians controlled the match after a missed French tackle. The Sevens series’ leading scorer (39 attempts) Madison Levy scored the game’s first points after 30 seconds, and her sister Tegan converted with ease to make it 7-0.
The score did not move until the end of the first half, but the French cracked again after three minutes spent in defense in the second half (14-0). The reaction came from Joanna Grices two minutes from the end, and he found a good outsider (14-5). But Australia had more resources and took the lead thirty seconds from time thanks to Bill Terreta (21-5). Ian Jason’s last try for the French changed nothing.
The French team finished second in their group and will face the second French team in Group C.
